Vic Davis/Earl Swingle Scholarships were first given at Torch Night 1995. Four rising seniors each received a $1,000 scholarship for their participation in cocurricular activities and for demonstrating “exceptional campus leadership.” The first recipients were Mamar Gelaye, mechanical engineering; Adam M. Hofeler, sports management; Jeromy L. Runion, sports administration; and Leah E. Sparks, public relations.

Chancellor Jimmy Cheek created the position of vice chancellor for diversity in 2012. In early 2013 the search for the initial vice chancellor was completed, and Mr. Rickey Hall, assistant vice president for equity and diversity at the University of Minnesota, was named to the post. He assumed the position in June 2013.

In the 2003-4 academic year, the College of Veterinary Medicine was one of only two colleges of veterinary medicine in the country to initiate use of digitized slides, replacing the traditional microscope for many of the slides that students view.
