Richard Karp drowned April 20, 1973, after drifting off course into Douglas Lake while making his first parachute jump. In fall 2008 the Parents Association formed the Parents Council to serve as a sounding board for parents and advocate for the Parents and Families Fund. The council meets two to three times each year with the Parents Association staff and UT administrators. The meetings coincide with other Parents Association events, such as Family Weekends.
