In order to have sufficient land to construct the major science facility between Hoskins Library and the Jessie Harris Building, three houses on White Avenue had to be acquired and removed. This requirement was first included in UT’s 1994 Master Plan, but an error deleted the notation from a subsequent update. Knox Heritage asserted that UT had committed not to acquire the three houses, but no record could be found of any official who had made such a commitment. UT paid $515,000 for 1312 White Avenue in 2013; $1 million for 1308 in 2014; and $1.1 million for 1302 in 2015.
