The French wallpaper of outdoor scenes in the dining room at Crescent Bend is on loan from the university. The wallpaper was intended for Andrew Jackson’s The Hermitage in Nashville. When Jackson’s daughter-in-law decided against using the wallpaper, Col. Joseph Scott bought some for his 1830 Knoxville home. The paper was removed from Scott’s home (which became Stevens Mortuary) in 1951 and was given to the university. In the 1970s UT’s McClung Museum loaned the wallpaper to Crescent Bend for the dining room.
