The Home Economics Club compiled a cookbook, Volunteer Recipes, in 1948 as a means of raising funds for a graduate scholarship in the college. Recipes were contributed by Clare Boothe Luce, Mrs. Harry Truman, Mrs. Calvin Coolidge, Lynn Fontanne, and Jeanette MacDonald, as well as by UT faculty, students, and staff. In fall 1955 the club presented a fund of $6,000, representing the book’s proceeds, to the university. Money earned by the fund was designated for a scholarship in the College of Home Economics. In 1958 the club requested, and UT approved, naming the scholarship for Jessie W. Harris, dean of home economics.
