The Vic Davis Torchbearer Award was established in 1971 by members of the class of 1931 and succeeding classes in memory of Vic Davis, who served as executive director of the Alumni Association from 1926 to 1948. Money for the fund comes from contributions and from the sale of especially designed ties and scarves. The first two students to receive the $300 award (1980) were Guy Reel and Scott Rose. Both were chosen for their exceptional campus leadership. This fund was subsumed into the Vic Davis/Earl Swingle Scholarships, first awarded in 1995.
