UTTV Television Station

Comcast Cable, in partnership with its largest customer, the University of Tennessee, provided a channel on its digital network on which UT launched its own television station available to all digital subscribers in the area in 2007. An additional seven thousand students in UT residence halls have access to the station on campus channel 65 (Comcast subscribers off campus viewed the station on channel 194). Programming for the station was delegated to the Video and Photography Center, a unit of the UT Public Relations Office. The College of Communication and Information System’s School of Journalism and Electronic Media was made responsible, through the Video and Photography Center, for providing student involvement in programming and production.

Several programs were initially developed for UTTV, including Campus Conversations with Chancellor Loren Crabtree; UT Cribs, featuring student dorms on campus; UT Today, a weekly 30-minute broadcast produced by upper division broadcasting and electronic media students; Ready for the World, hosted by students and delineating intercultural and multicultural events; and UT Connections, a program featuring stories about the impact of agriculture and agricultural research on Tennessee and the nation.
