University Protective Association (UPA)

The University Protective Association, an antifraternity organization, was established in 1894. Its membership numbered approximately one hundred students, who distributed large numbers of flyers recounting the horrors of fraternity initiations and describing their disastrous effect upon the university’s literary societies. The UPA met on April 20, 1894, and adopted a constitution and bylaws, but by the end of the term, the organization appeared to have disbanded.
