Upon the recommendation of Interim President Eli Fly, the board of trustees approved a 3.5 percent raise pool for merit-based salary increases for UT faculty and a 1.5 percent raise pool for merit-based salary increases for UT staff, to be added to the 2.5 across-the-board raises appropriated by the State in July at its December 11 meeting. The Faculty Senate and Student Government Association had previously passed resolutions calling for equal raises. Members of the United Campus Workers presented a letter of complaint on January 4 to each member of the board of trustees, setting forth its complaints and additionally asking that one member of the staff be added as an elected member of the board of trustees. The letter also indicated that some people who intended to protest the differential had been kept out of the board meeting.
