The Student Government Association lobbied in summer 2012 for a plan that would cap tuition increases for entering freshmen in 2013 at 3 percent per academic year during their time at UT. Chancellor Cheek recommended the plan to the board of trustees, which adopted it at their June 2012 meeting. The plan was implemented alongside the Take 15, Graduate in 4 academic plan introduced to freshmen entering as part of the class of 2017.
