In fall 1991 UT implemented a 30-line touchtone registration system. The system was for advance registration only. Students registering after the ending “Touchtone” date (December 8) had to use scan forms as usual. Each student was issued a four-digit personal security code that, along with an assigned date upon which the student could first use the system, allowed access into the system. Students were grouped by numbers of hours completed so that graduating seniors could be the first to access the system and register for classes they needed. The system was similar to that used for drop/add by touchtone telephone. Nearly eighteen hundred students registered via the system for spring 1992. That system was managed by Periphonics. UT switched vendors, to EPOS, in 1999.
