Opened in Neyland-Thompson Sports Center in February 1990, the Tennessee Football Hall of Fame was designed to chronicle the history of Tennessee football through video, audio, and various kinds of memorabilia. Such icons as the Kentucky beer barrel and national championship trophies were centerpieces, and photographs and information about Tennessee All-Americans and a wealth of other information was provided. There were life-size wax figures of Peyton Manning and Tee Martin, until the renovation of the exhibit in 2010. During the renovation, the statue of Tee Martin was broken. Athletics Director Mike Hamilton indicated that the figures were stored (in a closet) and would be considered for placement in the new traditions area of the expanded Lawson Athletics Center. The original space allocated for the Hall of Fame was converted in 2014 into a $10 million state-of-the-art television studio.
