The Teaching Materials Center was a part of the University Extension Library, operated by the UT system following the creation of the system because it served faculty on all campuses and a large number of non-UT users, such as teachers. It provided equipment and films used in classrooms. Since university use came heavily from UT Knoxville, the unit was transferred to the Knoxville campus as a cost-saving measure, effective August 20, 1982. UT Knoxville integrated the materials into the Undergraduate Library’s nonprint unit. Until these films were transferred, the library had not collected films nor made them available—it had concentrated on videotape formats.
