The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (now Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) received a gift of software in 2004 from Synopsis worth in excess of $24 million. The gift included technical support, training, and curriculum development for classroom instruction. The software allowed students to learn the same methodology for developing system-on-chip solutions that were current in the industry. Synopsis, founded in 1986, is an electronic design automation industry leader. At the time of the gift, its annual revenues were $1.18 billion.
