Students rallied in front of the Law School on March 27, 2012, from noon to 1:00 p.m., to bring awareness to the Trayvon Martin case, in which a black teen was shot and killed while visiting his family in a gated community in Florida by George Zimmerman, a resident of the community and part of the neighborhood watch. They carried signs with sayings such as Do I Look Suspicious?, Awareness for Trayvon Martin, and Honk for Justice. On April 12 approximately 75 students held a march from the Black Cultural Center to Cumberland Avenue, followed by a forum. Tony Benson, Nia Sheriff, Betty Hong, Harlin Miller, and Akoma Onwuzuruigbo, representing several student organizations, were the organizers of the march.
