Student Issue, 2008—Alcohol on Campus

In November 2008 the Student Government Association passed a bill seeking to change UT policy to allow students 21 years old or older to possess and consume alcohol on campus. Meredith Myers and Laura Nishida, authors of the bill, pointed to the availability of alcohol in skyboxes and at certain university events and noted that the UT Alcohol on Campus Task Force had recommended to the chancellor that the sale of athletic beverages be allowed in Thompson-Boling Arena at nonathletic events. The administration declined to make the campus “wet.”
