Prior to 2006, students had used Webmail for email purposes. OIT determined that it would be better for them to use UT’s Tmail system, which had more features, could handle more simultaneous users, and was almost as easy to use as Webmail. Student migration was announced, and some students were allowed to migrate in 2006, with the majority of students being offered the opportunity to migrate voluntarily in spring 2007. While many students were pleased with the transition, many also were loath to transfer to the new system, which did not have some features of the previous system. Seniors were especially reluctant to have to change to the new system, with so short a time remaining in their undergraduate careers.
