The Student Government Association and other students were displeased with the cut in the student ticket allocation from 6,000 for all men’s basketball games to 3,749 for selected SEC games and 1,530 for nonconference games. The cuts came as the renovation of Thompson-Boling Arena decreased the number of seats from 24,525 to between 20,000 and 21,000 and were an attempt to match more closely the number of student tickets that would be used with the allocation, in order to sell the remainder of tickets. Average student attendance for SEC games in 2005–6 was 2,131 and for 2004–5 the average was 2,708. The 1,500-seat allocation in the lower level of the arena remained intact.
