The Muslim Student Association sponsored a march from the Volunteer Statue to the university center on April 24, 1993, to protest ethnic cleansing being carried out on Muslims by the Serbians in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The protestors were attempting to raise awareness of conditions they believed were being ignored by the United States and the world. Tawfik A-Ramada, sophomore in business administration, addressed the crowd, calling for action to end the spectacle of human suffering.
