Student Issue, 1920—Women’s Intercollegiate Athletics

On March 16, 1920, a mass meeting of the women students of the university was held, and resolutions were unanimously adopted calling for women students to have the same rights and privileges as men; for women’s athletics to be allowed to develop to the same extent as in other colleges; for women’s intercollegiate basketball and tennis matches at home and away to be permitted; for women’s intercollegiate games to be scheduled in advance of the season, as men’s games were; for women students to be allowed to hold swimming and field meets for individual and class championships; and for establishment of a separate Women’s Athletics Association, since women’s athletics was not given full recognition by the Athletics Association, even though women students joined the Athletics Association and paid the same fee as the men.
