The All Students’ Club became the Student Government Association in 1962, when the All Students’ Council joined the National Student Government Association and changed its name to Student Government Association. Originally, the SGA’s primary responsibilities were organizing Homecoming, All Sing, and Carnicus. During the 1965–66 year, the SGA functioned under a newly adopted structure, and in 1968 it began to adopt the emphases and structure in place today. The current Student Government Association provides the student body with a means to deal with the affairs of students and as a forum for the expression of student views and interests concerning student life within the university. There are four coequal legislative branches within the SGA: the Student Senate, the Graduate Student Association, the Undergraduate Academic Council, and the Freshman Council. The executive branch of SGA consists of the president, the vice president, other cabinet members, and 12 Student Services Committees.
