Stuart Mountain

Stuart Mountain, in Victoria Land Antarctica, is named for Alfred Wright Stuart, a faculty member in the Department of Geography from 1966 to 1970. He served as research glaciologist on an eight-person research team in Antarctica as part of the US Antarctic Research Program from November 1958 to March 1960. He is the author of The Frozen World: The Polar Diaries of Arthur Wright Stuart. In 1966 he taught an upper-division course in Polar Geography at UT. He left UT for a position at UNC Charlotte. He is also the coeditor of The North Carolina Atlas, (as well as the author of a substantial body of other scholarly work) and was principally concerned with economic geography at UNC Charlotte.
