Provost (later Chancellor) Loren Crabtree initiated a strategic planning process to create a contemporary strategic plan in early 2002. He indicated that the plan should move the institution forward and that budget allocations should be directly related to it. The first draft of “A Plan for the New Century” was released for review by university constituencies in March 2002.
