Dr. Sol Adler joined the Audiology and Speech Pathology faculty in 1967. He earned the bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Brooklyn College and the PhD from Ohio State. He was a pioneer in the field of pediatric language disorders and multicultural issues. He was the first director of UT Medical Center’s Speech and Hearing Clinic, and he founded the Pediatric Language Clinic at UT. He wrote 14 books and hundreds of articles in his field of expertise. Adler served as president of the Tennessee Speech and Hearing Association in 1969, and was later elected a fellow of the American Speech and Hearing Association in 1975. He received the 1984 Clinician Achievement Award from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation. The annual Sol Adler Memorial Conference was initiated to present current issues of interest to professionals who provide clinical services in Speech Pathology and Audiology and to those who conduct research in communications sciences and disorders.
