Women’s intercollegiate soccer made its debut in the 1996–97 year. It played its opening game at the Tennessee Soccer Complex on August 30, 1996, to a standing room only crowd of 2,631 for the inaugural match against Chattanooga. In its first year, it was tenth in the nation in average home attendance. The first coach was Charlie MacCabe (1996–99). MacCabe’s successor, Angela Kelly (2000–2011), coached the team to three regular season championships (2003, 2004, 2005) and four SEC Tournament Championships (2002, 2003, 2005, 2008). The expanded and upgraded soccer facility, Regal Stadium, opened in 2007. Brian Pensky was named head coach in 2012.
