Sigma Delta Chi was founded in 1909 as a professional journalism society. The UT chapter, established on June 2, 1956, was the first chapter in Tennessee. Sigma Delta Chi endeavors to raise the standards of journalism, to recognize outstanding achievement of journalists, and to promote recognition of the profession of journalism.
