Sculptures, Outdoor—Rare Pages III [Blane De St. Croix]

Rare Pages III, a 7-foot high, 12-foot wide work by Blane De St. Croix is a concrete tile and aluminum siding exterior “library” that consists of approximately six hundred incised drawings of endangered birds and mammals. It was purchased by UT as part of the Reese Collection of outdoor sculpture in 1993 and is located at the back of the Art/Architecture Building. De St. Croix earned the BFA (sculpture) from Massachusetts College of Art in Boston and the MFA (sculpture) from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan (where Carl Milles, Swedish sculptor of Europa and the Bull, was on the faculty and where a casting of Europa and the Bull is also located). He has had numerous grants and commissions and has served as a visiting professor at several colleges and universities. He was an associate professor at Florida Atlantic University and then decided to divide his time and work between South Florida and Brooklyn, New York.
