The College of Business commissioned local sculptress Julie Warren Martin to provide a marble sculpture for the courtyard of the Stokely Management Center. The sculpture, originally titled Genesis, was installed in March 1987. The sculpture is of red band Tennessee marble and is 10-and-one-half feet long. The original block of marble weighed approximately thirty thousand pounds, and the finished sculpture weighed approximately eighteen thousand pounds. Following ice damage in 1989, which split the marble, the sculpture was reworked and renamed Emergence.
