Founded in 1904 at the University of Wisconsin, Scabbard and Blade is a national honorary society for advanced members of the Army ROTC program. Membership is limited to the top 10 percent of the Cadet Corps at any of the member institutions. The “Military Ball” was one of the main Scabbard and Blade activities. A local military honor group was organized at UT on January 4, 1923, with 11 members, and was issued a charter by Scabbard and Blade in April, the second chapter in the South to obtain a charter.
