The 1958 edition of Tennessee Studies in Literature contained a new poem by Carl Sandburg, written especially for UT. The poem, “World Series Analects for Adult Education” is in free verse and took “a quizzical look at what’s good in books,” according to Dr. Alvin Thaler, coeditor of the publication. Sandburg was a personal friend of UT professors Alvin Thaler and John Hodges.
