The Salute to the Hill performance before each home football game by the Pride of the Southland Band was first executed on September 17, 1994, before the Florida game. As the band marches from the Music Building to the stadium, it stops at the corner of Andy Holt Avenue and Philip Fulmer Way (formerly Stadium Drive), faces the Hill, and plays a medley of traditional UT songs. James Sparks, director of bands from 1993 to 1996, initiated the salute.
