The UT Sailing Club began in 1995 when a group of students convinced the Concord Yacht Club (established in 1951) and the UT Rec Sports Club Office each to purchase three JY 15 boats and establish a maintenance fund for upkeep of the boats so that the student club could be established. The club first sailed in spring 1996. The first president of the club was Susan Keuhn. UT coed and women’s racing teams began competing in district championships and three points regattas with the South Atlantic Sailing Association in fall 1997.
