Dr. William Harold (Harry) Row was a dedicated faculty member in the Department of Mathematics for 29 years and was especially instrumental in moving the department forward in the area of computing. He received the undergraduate degree at Knox College in Illinois, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa as well as the wrestling and tennis teams. He was awarded a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship to attend Stanford for graduate school and earned the MS in 1962. He earned the PhD from Wisconsin in 1969. He died suddenly in July 1999 of a heart attack, and in December 1999 the Mathematics Department voted unanimously to request that a computer classroom in Ayres be named in his honor. Additionally, the Harry Row Scholarship in the Mathematics Department annually recognizes teachers who desire to continue the study of mathematics, with preference being given to those who have significantly used technology in their teaching.
