Robin Akin became one of only 22 general officers in the United States Army in April 2009 when she was promoted to brigadier general. A 1982 graduate of UT, she is the first former UT Army ROTC cadet to become a general. Akin was the first female to be a platoon leader in her organization and a second lieutenant, the first to be a female company commander as a parachute rigger, the second female battalion commander in her airborne outfit, the first female as a brigade commander in her outfit in Germany, and the first female general officer in the 3rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) based at Fort Knox. She retired in 2013.
