Robert N. “Bob” Clement, a 1967 graduate, is the son of former Governor Frank Clement. From 1972 to 1978, he represented East Tennessee on the state Public Service Commission, and in 1979 President Jimmy Carter appointed him to fill a two-year term on the TVA Board of Directors. From 1983 to 1987, Clement served as president of Cumberland College, and then (1988) he was elected to represent Tennessee’s 5th District in the US House of Representatives. Upon leaving the House of Representatives, Clement founded a consulting firm. In 2006 he donated his papers to the university.
