When UT could not accommodate all the students who requested housing in fall 1980, the Department of Residence Halls arranged with the Haven House Inn (formerly Camelot Inn) in Alcoa to contract with students for fall quarter housing, assuring the students by a letter from the director that commercial transportation would be available to the campus. The letter continued, “If additional service is needed, the university would be able to provide a van service at a cost not to exceed the commercial service available.” The commercial bus service, however, did not have a stop at the motel, so residence halls provided van service at no charge to the students who were living at Haven House.
