In 1965 the farm owned and operated as a part of the UT at Martin campus became a part of the Agricultural Experiment Station. (The name was changed to Research and Education Center at Martin in 2005.) The 657 acres provided, initially, a site for variety trials on corn, soybeans, wheat, alfalfa, and some winter cover crops like vetch and clover used to reduce soil erosion. The cattle program was expanded. Over the years, approximately 130 acres of the original farm were absorbed into the expanded UT at Martin campus. Three tracts of land were added to the station, making the total acreage seven hundred. The station is known for row crop research and livestock research.
