An “orange and white” party was held in Circle Park after the spring 1989 Orange and White Game. But when Chancellor Jack Reese and his family arrived, they discovered it was a surprise party for him, organized by students, to honor him and to announce that students would be joining together in an eight-month campaign to raise at least $10,000 for a library endowment. Reese was to choose the area of the library that would receive the benefit of the endowment. A “Reese’s Cup” filled with the peanut butter candy was presented, and a variety of students spoke. The “Reese’s Cup” symbol was used in collecting donations.
