In response to the growing number of reported rapes on and near the campus, the UT Student Senate successfully worked to establish a Rape Crisis Center in fall 1973. Ali Waters and Kathy Waters, along with many volunteers, aided rape victims through counseling. The center moved into the Presbyterian Student Center on Melrose Avenue in March 1974.
