The Promise Keepers, an evangelical Christian men’s organization, held one of their 19 stadium conferences in Neyland Stadium in June 1997. More than thirty thousand men attended. The National Organization for Women held a demonstration near the stadium to protest some of the Promise Keepers’ teachings. More than 70 speakers were scheduled, including Promise Keepers founder Bill McCartney and Franklin Graham, son of evangelist Billy Graham.
