Pi Lambda Theta was founded as a national honorary society for women in education, dedicated to the concept of education as a profession. It is a member of the Phi Delta Kappa International family of associations, which includes Phi Delta Kappa International, PLT, and the Future Educators Association. UT’s Alpha Xi Chapter was begun in the 1930s.
