Physical Education Made Voluntary

At its January 1971 meeting, the University Senate unanimously adopted the recommendation of the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation that the mandatory physical education requirement be dropped and that all such courses be voluntary, effective fall quarter 1971. Education majors seeking teacher accreditation continued to have to take nine hours of physical education or health for graduation.
