Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia was founded on October 6, 1898, at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, as a men’s music fraternity. UT’s Theta Omicron Chapter was chartered on May 16, 1959. The charter was granted to the former Beta Beta Beta music club. Bill Hadox was the first president. After a period of inactivity, the chapter was reactivated in 1980 and was formally recognized January 13, 1984, as a UT student organization. One of the interests of the UT chapter has been to promote interest in American music.
