Paul Harrill studied film and literature through the College Scholars Program of the College of Arts and Sciences, earning the BA in 1994. He earned the MFA at Temple University. He joined the UT faculty as an adjunct faculty member in 1999. As an artist in residence, he produced a film—Gina, An Actress, Age 29, partially filmed at UT’s Middlebrook Building before it was occupied—and entered the work into the 2001 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. It won the Jury Prize for best short filmmaking. His short film Quick Feet, Soft Hands was a coproduction with the Independent Television Service. The Aperture Film Grant, the MacDowell Colony, Yaddo, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts have supported his work. Harrill joined the faculty of Virginia Tech in 2006 and returned to UT Knoxville in 2013 as associate professor of art/Jim and Dee Haslam Professor.
