Patricia L. Walne joined the UT faculty in the Botany Department in 1966 and retired from UT in 2000. She earned the bachelor’s degree from Hanover College, a master’s degree from Indiana University, and the PhD from the University of Texas at Austin. She was the author of many scientific articles and several books, primarily in her specialty on ultrastructural studies of protists. She served as president of the Phycological Society in 1974. She was a strong advocate for international education and took an active role in the Center for International Education. Her scholarship and teaching was recognized by her designation as macebearer, and she also received citations from the Commission for Women and UT.
