The eight-foot seven-inch bronze sculpture of Pat Summitt in the Pat Summitt Plaza was unveiled at the dedication of the plaza on November 21, 2013. Eighty-six-year-old David Adickes from Houston was commissioned by the LaPorte family of Elizabethton, Tennessee, to sculpt the centerpiece of the plaza. UT alum Chris LaPorte, from Houston, was a collector of Adickes’ art. The sculpture, which weighs five hundred pounds, arrived the evening before the dedication via flatbed truck and was hoisted into place. Adickes worked from photographs and videos, having only one discussion with Summitt, by FaceTime on an iPhone. Adickes described Summitt’s pose as one “of triumph.”
