Partners in Sports, the student organization for University of Tennessee sport management majors, was begun in 1999 as a partnership in which corporations donate funds for the improvement of academics and in turn receive interns and student help with projects on campus and in the community. The organization’s founder was Professor Buck Jones. The organization gives scholarships and awards, and one of its first successes was the establishment of a resource center in the Health and Physical Education Building with computers, a scanner, digital camera, a group meeting area, a reference library, and job listings. In 2003 a Partners in Sports Conference was established to meet students’ requests for a professional gathering.
