The Society of Agricultural Education Students was formed in 1966, replacing the Future Farmers of America.

The Society of American Foresters is, among other things, the accreditation body for baccalaureate programs in forestry. UT’s programs leading to the BSF have been accredited since 1969.

The Tennessee Section of the Society of Women Engineers was formed in the spring of 1962 and originally consisted of all women majoring in engineering and physics. The national organization, headquartered in Chicago, was founded in 1950 and incorporated in 1952.

Softball was added to the women’s intercollegiate sports program in 1995. The team played its first home game against Chattanooga at Powell High School, since the UT Softball Field at Tyson Park was still under construction. Four hundred twenty-six fans attended. In the spring of 1995, UT and the City of Knoxville entered into an agreement providing that UT could construct a women’s softball field that met NCAA stadium standards and a practice field in Tyson Park. In 1937 one of the dairy short courses premiered sorghum ice cream. Named Sogo, and marketed with the slogan “We Go for Sogo,” the hope was that this ice cream would become widely popular and set new sales records. The ice cream, however, failed to capture the popular taste and was phased out of production.

In fall 1982 solar collectors were installed on Andy Holt Apartments as a joint project between residence halls and the Solar Applications Branch of the TVA. The collectors, designed by Bernie McGraw and Albert Bedinger of UT’s Environment Resource Center, cost $22,000. Residence halls paid $17,000 and TVA contributed $5,000. Dr. Soper joined the English Department faculty in 1936, relocating from Cornell University. He was appointed theatre director in 1939, and in 1940–41 a one-year course in theatre was introduced into the English curriculum, offering the study of acting, stagecraft, play interpretation, and directing.
