SOA stands for Student Orientation Assistant, the students who worked in summer orientation. The term has been changed to Orientation Leaders.

The university announced on January 25, 1965, that all students would be required to provide Social Security Numbers when they picked up spring quarter appointment cards. The institution provided forms to obtain Social Security Numbers for those students who did not have them. The numbers were a necessary part of UT’s new automated registration system.
