Pi Tau Sigma (Honorary Mechanical Engineering Fraternity)

The Tennessee Eta Tau Sigma chapter was installed on April 24, 1950. It was founded on March 16, 1915, at the University of Illinois. Its membership is composed of juniors and seniors with high GPAs and who demonstrate the qualities of leadership, personality, trustworthiness, industry, dependability, and probable future success in mechanical engineering.

Pierce, J. A.

The UT Athletics Association hired former Lafayette standout J. A. Pierce in 1899 to coach football for one season. With his hiring, he became the first person hired specifically to serve as football coach. His 5-2 record resulted in his staying for another season, in which the team was 3-2-1.
